Social justice is one of the four key issues prioritized as a grant goal. In terms of the application and selection process, a scoring rubric will be used by the Review Committee.

Who Can Apply

Is there a minimum age requirement for artists who can be funded?

Are fiscally sponsored organizations eligible?

Yes!

Can “grassroots” orgs, artist collectives, or cooperatives apply, or do they need to be a 501(c)3 non-profit?

Groups or collectives that are not 501(c)3 should seek to partner with a community based organization or civic agency or seek a fiscal sponsor. Full guidelines will be ready March 16.

Do artists need to partner with existing organizations?

Artists may partner with organizations or work with a fiscal sponsor. Full guidelines will be ready March 16.

Are government agencies able to apply for program funding that addresses the goals identified?

Our program design team will have full guidelines ready March 16, but in order to address grant goals, government agencies will likely have stronger applications when applying with artists or collective and/or CBOs, especially if they can demonstrate the ability to create new sustainable jobs for artists in the long-term.

Can artists be funded to hire other artists, or would one need a non-profit for that kind of group effort?

Can grant funding cover overhead, like utilities (current and past) and rent?

This program is designed to create new programs and projects and will not fund utilities and rent.

Will grant funding support individual artist exhibitions?

Potentially. This funding at its heart is intended to put artists to work, to create new job opportunities for artists, and seeks to create serious innovation in cultural programming that might push the boundaries of an exhibition.

We are a non-profit and would like to get a grant to hire artists to do a large mural on the side of our building. Would this funding support murals?

Potentially. Our program design team will have full guidelines ready March 16, but we encourage you to partner with other organizations in order to propose a suite of projects that satisfy grant goals.

Will this potentially support artist residencies that are instructional and include travel and a stipend for the artists?

Potentially. It would depend on how the application was designed.

Can these funds be used to support a one-time project like a community mural to cover a high graffiti area and help with working with the city?

We encourage applicants to think beyond a one-time project or community mural to create sustainable change and provide new jobs for artists in the long-term.

This funding is intended to push the boundaries of what cultural experiences can be. We encourage you to innovate new kinds of programming!

No, this funding is not intended to support new non-profits.

Can grant funding help our organization provide raises and add new positions?

No, to raises for existing employees, but you can possibly add new positions if these meet the goals and objectives of the Creative Corps program. Full guidelines will be ready March 16.

I would like seed money to start a new performance and training studio. Would this program provide funding for tuition fees for participants in low-income communities?

Artist Support

If an individual artist wants to create public artwork, will we need to find building owners ourselves, or will there be a directory of potential sights made available?

Councils are here to support artists in creating successful applications. We will be working with artists to identify needs like these. Please fill out this survey and let us know artists’ needs!

Culminating Projects

Where will the artwork and culminating projects be displayed?
