We acknowledge that we are embarking on new work on unceded ancestral and traditional tribal lands. The arts councils have been reaching out individually to tribes to begin a dialogue with federally recognized tribes and with tribes who are still seeking recognition. We are committed to supporting our ongoing relationships with tribes and hope to work with them to build a land acknowledgement statement. But we also affirm our intentions for creating ongoing relationships that honor the culture and practices of Native communities and to strengthen our awareness of historical and contemporary issues throughout this work. We also invite Native artists and culture bearers into this work and are committed to meeting with Native communities individually to discuss the program. This is a work in progress that will continue to evolve the more we learn and grow in our relationships and knowledge. Currently, we invite you to visit https://native-land.ca to find out more about on whose land you currently reside.
